Quite often, you like or dislike a badminton racket the moment you lay your hand on it or hold it for the first time. 3 out of 4 of
our badminton experts absolutely loved it. Excellent graphics (dark blue with
black decals), super thin shaft and a great initial feel. The 4th expert somehow was reluctant to give it a pass. The slightly elongated shape of this racket threw her off. In the final analysis though, she ended up giving this
racket a thumbs up. On to some of our observations of the Thruster TKF badminton racket when it comes to things most badminton players care about.
Smash - 8.5
A powerful racket indeed. The model our experts tested was the 4U/G5 with BG85 and all of them felt that the racket provided excellent power on smashes. What’s more is that they all agreed that despite the heavier head, this racket was quite quick which meant increased racket speed for powerful smashes. 8.5 out of 10 is a pretty good score for a 4U racket that provides excellent maneuverability despite a really head heavy frame. Perhaps the
distribution of the weight towards the lower part of the head accounts for the
quick handling - making it feel not as head heavy as most other rackets in that category where the weight is distributed towards the top of the frame.
Drop - 7.5
Nothing stood out for our experts testing the Thruster TKF for drops. Decent feel but nothing exceptional.
Clear - 9
Despite its heavy shaft, our expert staff felt clears were deep, consistent
and precise. Because badminton rackets with a stiff shaft bend and unbend quickly, playing deep clears can require that extra bit of skill. Our experts
felt that it’s super thin shaft helped cut through resistance and compensate for a stiffer shaft. One of the most impressive aspects of the Thruster was lack of fatigue even when practicing clears for over 15-20 mins straight
Drive - 9
The Thruster TKF badminton really came through with flying colors during drives. Known primarily as a singles racket, the Thruster TKF excelled with
drives from the back of the court making it also a great option for the attack minded back court doubles player. Our experts all agreed that this was a surprising element of this racket and huge positive.
Defensive Lift - 8.5
Our experts felt that lifts were easy to execute. Once again, the thin shaft helped cut through the resistance on the follow through for the lifts especially when retrieving low drops. A rating of 8.5 only because there are
other rackets that performed defensive lifts better -case in point, the Jetspeed S10Q.
Net Kill - 8.5
With a super fast frame and maneuverability, net kills were relatively easy to make with the Thruster TKF. As is the case with net kills, quickness, timing
and control are key and our experts were impressed with its quick handling and control required to ensure racket does not touch the net.
The fact that the Thruster TKF is a great singles racket is no surprise. No
less a player than the world number one women’s player has put her trust in
this racket. Tai Tzu Ying is an incredible player and can play with any
badminton racket, but the fact that she chooses to play with the Thruster TKF
is a testament to the quality of the racket. The Thruster TKF surprised all of
our experts with its potential as a great attacking doubles badminton racket.
The Thruster TKF definitely deserves consideration the next time you are
looking to buy a great singles racket that performs admirably as an attacking
